Northwestern Postdoctoral Fellowship in Black Studies

The Department of Black Studies at Northwestern University invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship with a start date of September 1, 2024. Candidates with PhDs granted between 2022 and the start date are encouraged to apply. Candidates can be from any (inter-) discipline, but should have a commitment to the field of Black Studies, and have a research and teaching profile in Black histories in the Americas, addressing environmental studies and/or health. This is a residential fellowship. The candidate will teach two quarter-long courses in the Department per year, and participate in the intellectual life of the Department and University. Submission to include:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Cover letter detailing research and teaching areas and plans for work to be undertaken during the fellowship
  • 1 publication or sample of scholarly writing
  • Evidence of teaching quality (e.g., syllabi and teaching evaluations)
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one from the dissertation Chair
