SONATA BIS Call for Proposals for Research Projects in Poland

The National Science Centre (NCN) is launching the SONATA BIS 16 call for researchers with a PhD conferred within 5 to 12 years before the proposal submission year who intend to create a new research team to conduct basic research projects.
The budget call is PLN 220 million.
Proposals must be submitted electronically via the OSF submission system available at https://osf.opi.org.pl, in compliance with the proposal submission procedure. The proposal form will be available in the system on 29 June 2026. The submission deadline is 15 September 2026, 2 pm CEST.
MAJOR MODIFICATIONS
- an obligation to disclose retracted papers in the proposals submitted to the call and in NCN-funded grant reports. The applicants are required to disclose a list of retracted papers of all researchers (including senior researchers), whose academic and research track record is presented in the proposal in the proposal submission year (as at the proposal submission date) and throughout the period covering papers published or accepted for publication (including career breaks referred to in footnote 3 to the Terms of the National Science Centre’s call for research projects), which must not be less than 10 years prior to the proposal submission year, and the reasons for retraction (if applicable); a link to the Resolution is available here;
- researchers who had their PhD conferred in the year of employment in the project or within 12 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project can apply for a post-doc position (the period may be extended by evidenced career breaks);
- new review panels are in place;
- policy on open access to research results has been updated.
In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, pursuant to a Resolution adopted by NCN, proposals submitted to the National Science Centre must not provide for any collaboration between Polish and Russian entities. Where any such collaboration is planned, the proposals shall be rejected as ineligible.
