Jutta Held Award
The Jutta Held Award honours and supports early career research in art history with a socio-political focus.
The prize, funded by Stiftung Kritische Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften, honours the memory of Jutta Held (1933–2007), one of the first female professors of art history. The award is made in recognition of her commitment to social issues and gender studies in art and cultural history, and aims to promote such critical approaches in early-career scholarship.
Consideration will be given to a Ph.D. dissertation, M.A. thesis, or publication completed within the last three years. Applicants should have graduated within the last five years. The winning candidate, chosen by an independent committee of scholars, will receive € 7,000, and is expected to spend three months conducting research at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich. During the stay, a new topic (unrelated to the submitted research paper) should be worked on and presented in a workshop at the ZI. On-site attendance and participation in ZI activities are expected.
Application
Applications should comprise the standard documents (CV, academic qualifications, certificates, publication list in a single PDF) and a copy of the research paper, accompanied by a summary of no more than three pages and a brief explanation of why the work merits consideration for this award. Please submit all materials by 28 February 2026 to: Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, to the attention of Dr. Katja Schröck, fellowships@zikg.eu.
