NYU Shangha invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Psychology. The position is expected to begin on September 1, 2025. The position is for one year, with an opportunity for renewal. There are two openings for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow of Psychology will be contributing to NYU Shanghai by teaching one semester, and conducting research the other semester.
Responsibilities
During the teaching semester, Fellows will teach the lab component of Introduction to Psychology, a popular course usually taken by first or second year undergraduates at NYU Shanghai. The lab component fulfills the University’s Experimental Discovery Core Curriculum requirement and aims to provide an understanding of the experimental methodologies used to investigate psychological phenomena (e.g., cognition and behavior). The Experimental Discovery component is designed to provide hands-on experience in experimental research for students who formulate and examine research questions, design and execute experiments, collect data, collect and clean data sets, run basic statistical analyses, and draft summary reports.
Teaching responsibilities include the following:
- Preparing course materials;
- Helping students understand the texts covered in the course;
- Preparing for the weekly lab sessions to maximize discussion and participation;
- Grading assignments and examinations;
- Assessing overall student progress;
- Giving lectures in the Introduction to Psychology course related to the lab component;
- Holding office hours for student consultations;
- Participating in meetings to discuss administrative and/or pedagogical matters related to the course; • Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
The non-teaching semester is devoted to the Fellow’s own research. Each Fellow will be paired with a mentor amongst the Psychology faculty at NYU Shanghai. Possible synergies with the fellow’s and the professor’s research agendas are desirable. Additionally, Fellows are expected to engage with the larger intellectual life of NYU Shanghai, participating in, or possibly organizing, academic events of interest to the University community, or otherwise contributing to the intellectual mission of the University. Fellows are expected to remain in residence for the full academic or calendar year, but will have a discretionary fund for travel to conferences or research sites.
Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions.
