OPUS Grants for Research Institutions in Poland

The National Science Centre has launched the OPUS 29 call for research projects addressed at researchers at any stage of their research career. Projects may be carried out over a period of 12, 24, 36 or 48 months.
Under OPUS 29, funding may be requested for research projects carried out:
- in collaboration with partners from foreign research institutions;
- without foreign participation;
- with the use of large-scale international research infrastructure by the Polish research teams.
Under OPUS 29, funding must not be requested under the Lead Agency Procedure, i.e., in collaboration with partners from foreign research institutions that apply for project funding under programmes launched in collaboration with the National Science Centre pursuant to the Lead Agency Procedure.
The call budget is 550,000,000 PLN.
Proposals must be submitted electronically via the OSF submission system (https://osf.opi.org.pl) pursuant to the Proposal Submission Procedure.
The call for proposals in the OSF submission system is open from 21 March to 17 June 2025, at 4 p.m.
Significant modifications:
- Annex 2 (Costs in research projects) to the Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects shall be amended as regards Full-time remuneration for a post-doc type post: the position can be applied for by anyone who had the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation, as long as the other terms of the Regulations are met. Participation in the call is also restricted to those researchers who had their PhD conferred in the year of employment in the project or within 12 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project, which period may be extended by evidenced career breaks.
- Monograph publication costs are not eligible if claimed as direct costs.
- Project literature does not count towards the page limit (i.e. 5 pages for short project descriptions and 15 pages for full project descriptions). Only project literature is not included in the page limit.
- A new list of review panels is now in place.
Proposals will be evaluated in two categories:
A. Project assessment (65%) (scientific quality, feasibility and potential impact);
B. Qualifications and achievements of the principal investigator (35%)
In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, pursuant to a Resolution adopted by the NCN, proposals submitted to the National Science Centre must not provide for any collaboration between Polish and Russian entities. Where any such collaboration is planned, the proposals shall be rejected as ineligible.
