Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Economic History

A post-doctoral fellowship in economic history is available at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History (IAKH), University of Oslo.

The position is financed through the Norwegian Research Council funded project Copper in the Early Modern Period. A Comparative Study of Work and Everyday Life in Falun and Røros. This is a joint project between the University of Oslo and the University of Uppsala.

The postdoctoral project must form a constituent part of the Copper in the Early Modern Period project and must deal with subjects and have a theoretical and methodological approach that accord with the project description. It is expected that the postdoctoral project will pay particular attention to developments in Røros and take a comparative approach.

The appointment is for a period of three years. There is a 10 % component of the position which is devoted to teaching, supervision and administrative duties.

Requirements

• A Doctoral Degree in economic history, with international or global comparative dimensions.
• Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
• Oral and written proficiency in English and Norwegian and a working command of Swedish

Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation before the application deadline.

In the evaluation of the candidates, emphasis will be placed on:

• A project proposal that reflects the organizational, methodological, theoretical and thematic nature of the Copper in the Early Modern Period project description, in particular comparative methods.
• Scientific merit of the proposed project and its contribution to the Copper in the Early Modern Period project.
• Competence in 1700-1900 global, economic and industrial history.
• Competence in the history of metals, and familiarity with Norwegian 18th and 19th century sources for economic and industrial history.
• A demonstrated capacity to produce theoretically informed and empirically grounded history.
• The applicant’s academic and personal ability to carry out the project within the allotted time frame.
• Good cooperative skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multinational team.
