Rice University Digital Scholarship Postdoctoral Fellow

Rice University’s Center for Research Computing, in partnership with the Humanities Research Center, will award one postdoctoral fellowship in digital scholarship focused on humanities and qualitative social sciences. The fellow will be expected to continue and/or develop a research project in digital humanities and/or digital qualitative social sciences, publish on his or her own research and scholarship, and give presentations on research and scholarship to colleagues at Rice and beyond. The fellow will also consult with the research community engaged in digital scholarship projects at Rice in the humanities and qualitative social sciences; offer technical and intellectual expertise to advance digital scholarship; help develop a “Digital Scholarship Lab;” and serve as a bridge between the research and scholarship community, the Center for Research Computing, and the Humanities Research Center. The fellow will also develop and lead workshops for faculty and students on the use of digital methods and cyberinfrastructure in the humanities and qualitative social sciences.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, one-year appointment, renewable for a second year, with an annual salary of $55,000 and an allowance for research and relocation. Additional funding for part-time student interns may be available as part of this appointment.

Eligibility

Fellows must have received a Ph.D. no earlier than July 1, 2014. Applicants must have a terminal degree from any humanistic or qualitative social sciences discipline or interdisciplinary background, including, but not limited to computer science or library and information science with a research focus on issues related to digital scholarship are eligible to apply. The fellow should be able to work independently and collaboratively; have excellent communication skills; have experience working with a wide range of digital methods, that may include database design, metadata standards, procedural modeling, textual analysis, or GIS; and be familiar with Python, Ruby/Rails, Django, Java, Javascript, PHP, SQL, HTML, and/or Drupal.
