Wolfgang Ratjen Award
Award for Early Career Research in the Graphic Arts
Award for Early Career Research in the Graphic Arts.
The Wolfgang Ratjen Award is an annual award for early career research in the field of graphic arts. The prize, funded by the Foundation Wolfgang Ratjen, is curated and presented by CONIVNCTA FLORESCIT Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte.
The purpose of this award, which honours the memory of the collector Wolfgang Ratjen (1943-1997), is to encourage younger scholars to address neglected topics and to bring the results of their work to the attention of a broader public.
Consideration will be given to a Ph.D. dissertation, M.A. thesis, or publication, completed within the last three years and dealing with art historical questions which involve drawings or prints in Western art. Applicants should have been graduated within the last five years. The winning candidate, chosen by an independent committee of scholars, will receive € 7,000, and is expected to spend three months conducting research at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich. During the stay, a new topic (unrelated to the submitted research paper) should be worked on and presented in a workshop at the ZI. On-site attendance and participation in ZI activities are expected.
Application
Candidates for the award are requested to send their application in electronic form: a pdf of the research paper in question (including a maximum 3-page summary), along with a curriculum vitae detailing academic qualifications, certificates and a list of publications (the personal documents in one single pdf) to: Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, to the attention of Dr. Katja Schröck, fellowships@zikg.eu.
The application deadline is February 28, 2026.
