Institute for European Global Studies

The Europainstitut / Institute for European Global Studies, founded in 1993, is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Basel directly subordinated to the Rectorate. In its research and teaching, the Institute focuses on the relationship between Switzerland and Europe in a global context, thereby addressing a key issue of the 21st century.
With staff members from three different faculties of the University of Basel, representing four academic disciplines, the Institute for European Global Studies offers a timely and innovative academic education with an interdisciplinary focus and a commitment to collaborative forms of research and learning. The Institute for European Global Studies unites expertise in the fields of politics, economics, philosophy, history and law in order to analyze Europe’s challenges, problems and opportunities in the context of a globally interconnected world. Research and teaching are closely interlinked in interdisciplinary master and doctoral degree courses. Students benefit from the lively exchange of ideas on groundbreaking topics discussed in dialogue with academics, teaching staff and the public.
