The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) was conceived and founded in 1988 by JRD Tata, who sought to create an institution to conduct advanced multidisciplinary research. Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the position of Project Associate to work on a project titled “Sociology of Snakebite Mitigation” that that contributes to the larger understanding of the humansnake conflict, specifically in the context of snakebite and its mitigation. The main objective is to understand the socio-cultural processes that shape the naturalised systemic barriers around snakebite response and mitigation, and to build interventions to rework these.

  1. Job Description: The Project Associate is expected to conduct the (guided) ethnography in the rural study-site around Hunsur in Mysore district. You will be located there for nearly the entire period of study.
  2. Duration: 09 months
  3. Language: fluent Kannada is mandatory
  4. Qualifications: awarded postgraduate degree in sociology/anthropology or related disciplines; skills around qualitative data collection, and knowledge about ethnographic methods.
