Postdoc Fellowship in Digital Humanities at IEG Mainz

The Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz awards one fellowship for a period of eight months for doctoral students or one fellowship of six months for postdocs in the field of Digital Humanities.

The fellowship supports international doctoral students or postdocs who wish to carry out their own research project using Digital Humanities methods. There is particular interest in projects that are linked with ongoing research at the IEG as well as current research projects of the Digitality Historical Research | DH Lab. At the IEG, you will have the chance to closely collaborate with the researchers in this Lab.

Scholars from the humanities with a historical focus who use digital methods for their projects are also invited to apply for the fellowship. 

As a member of the IEG’s research community you will be able to discuss your project in the inspiring working environment of the IEG. As a Fellowship holder you are required to reside in Mainz. You will participate in the IEG's research community and the weekly colloquia, where we expect you to present your work at least once during your fellowship. Fellows must submit a final report of their project at the end of the funding period. 

Proficiency in English is required.

What we offer

The monthly stipend is € 1,350 for doctoral students and € 1,800 for postdocs. Additionally, you can apply for family or child allowance.

Requirements

During the fellowship you are required to reside at the Institute in Mainz. You will actively participate in the IEG's research community and the weekly colloquia, where we expect you to present your work at least once during your fellowship.

Proficiency in English is required.

  3. a brief description of your proposed research project including the digital methods (max. 5 pages, PDF)
  4. copies of university certificates and proof of language competence (PDF)
  5. applications for a postdoc fellowship should also include a copy of their dissertation (PDF)
  6. academic letter of reference (PDF)

The academic advisor should send an up-to-date expertise (PDF) directly to the IEG by the application deadline: fellowship@ieg-mainz.de

The letter of reference should discuss (please avoid a general letter of recommendation):
- the applicant’s academic qualifications
- topic, goal, and recent state of the proposed research project
- a synopsis of the work to be done in Mainz along with possible time and work schedules
