Postdoctoral Fellowship in Southeast Asian Studies

Postdoctoral Associate, 2021-2022

Application Deadline: January 15, 2021

Description:

The Council on Southeast Asia Studies (CSEAS) at Yale University seeks applications for the position of Postdoctoral Associate in Southeast Asia Studies. The appointment period is from July 1, 2021 - June 30th, 2022.

The Postdoctoral Associate will collaborate with CSEAS faculty to organize, facilitate and attend the brownbag seminar series in Southeast Asian Studies, which meets on most Wednesdays at noon throughout the academic year. In addition, the fellow will teach one course of their own design in either of the two semesters in residence. Opportunities to teach a second course will be available, if the fellow so desires. The postdoctoral associate will be encouraged to devote all other time during the appointment to their own research and publishing agenda. CSEAS will endeavor to create mentorship opportunities for the fellow with faculty in the Council, and, where appropriate, across the university.

Qualifications

Ph.D. awarded between 2018 and June 15, 2021; specializing in Southeast Asia with disciplinary training in the humanities and social-sciences; during appointment, pursue a significant research and writing project; participate in core CSEAS activities such as the weekly brownbag series; and teach one course with substantial Southeast Asia-related content during the 2021-2022 academic year.

To foster mentorship and collaboration, proposals that express synergies with current CSEAS faculty research interests are encouraged; however, novel proposals bringing new perspectives to Southeast Asian Studies are also welcome, provided that applicants can demonstrate potential ways their work would engage with faculty at Yale.

Residence in New Haven will be expected in order to foster intellectual exchange with other members of the Program. If public health considerations continue to demand remote work during the postdoctoral period in 2021-2022, the residency requirement may be relaxed in accordance with University regulations, as well as U.S. and Connecticut State public health guidelines.
