Missions
The appointed researcher (M/F) will carry out an independent research program related to modern and contemporary China under the supervision of Dr. Cécile Armand. Research topics may include, but are not limited to:
• Chinese overseas students and intellectual migrations
• Elite education, career development, and mobility
• Academic and business networks
• Sino-foreign exchanges and transnational approaches to China.
Activities
The appointee (M/F) is expected to publish at least three research papers during the contract period, and to disseminate research findings regularly through conferences and other academic platforms. He/she is also expected to interact with students, faculty, and engineers affiliated with the Institute, to participate in the Institute's activities and events organized by the Principal Investigator.
Skills
Ph.D. completed within the last three years in modern or contemporary Chinese history, sociology, political science, or related social sciences.
Experience with data-driven approaches and digital methodologies is highly desirable. Preferred methodologies include: social network analysis; statistical analysis; data visualization; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); text mining and analysis, and other computational or web-based research techniques.
Languages: English and Chinese for academic work. French is welcome but NOT required.

The selected researcher will be affiliated to the Lyon Institute of East Asian Studies (IAO), in Lyon, France. The IAO is an internationally acclaimed research center specializing in the study of the societies, cultures, and political, economic, and social dynamics of East and Southeast Asia.
