UWA Institute of Advanced Studies Visiting Fellowships
The Institute of Advanced Studies plays a central role in facilitating research collaborations between UWA's scholars and leading researchers from across Australia and the world, with a mission of further enhancing the University's global research profile.
UWA IAS Visiting Fellowships are designed to foster Inclusivity, Interdisciplinarity and Innovation in research, through supporting visits by leading Australian and International scholars across all disciplines to visit The University of Western Australia.
Individuals working outside the academy, including artists, musicians, writers, activists, and public intellectuals are also eligible to apply for an IAS Visiting Fellowship, where their visit would contribute to the overall mission of UWA.

IDEAS
Exceptional scholars who will bring novel and innovative research ideas.
COLLABORATION
Collaborate with scholars from across Australia and the world to address key issues and challenges and provide mentorship for early/mid-career researchers.
IMPACT
Enhancing awareness, knowledge and understanding of key issues and challenges facing Australia and the world via teaching, research, publications, and/or research grant applications.
REMUNERATION
For 2024, grants of up to AUD $2,000 for Australian-based visiting scholars, and AUD $4,000 for international visiting scholars are available.
This funding is intended to support travel, accommodation, and associated expenses (e.g. catering, taxi fares) directly related to events and activities undertaken by Visiting Fellow.

APPLICANTS
Applicants at all stages of career, including Early Career Researchers, and all disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria:
Academic excellence and standing against career stage of the proposed Visiting Fellow;
The extent to which the visit will enhance research activities in line with UWA's research priorities;
The value and benefits of the research outputs and their impact to UWA.
Visiting scholars and their UWA Host/s are expected to contribute to the University's research strategy through activities that might include:
public lectures, postgraduate masterclasses, academic/industry workshops, or symposia;
publications (e.g. journal article, book chapter, op-ed or creative output, performance, or exhibition);
development of grant proposals; and,
collaborative research projects, academic and/or applied.
Additionally, UWA Hosts and Visiting Fellows are required to:
Write a short report on activities and achievements on completion of the Visiting Fellowship; and/or
Include the UWA Institute of Advanced Studies Visiting Fellowship in their institutional affiliation by-line in any publications (academic and non-academic) arising from the Fellowship.
