The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC ) of the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is accepting applications for a post-doctoral research associate position in the area of transportation modeling and planning. The position is for two-years but may be extended depending on results and available funding. This position is grant-funded and contingent upon available funding. Current Rutgers policy allows working remotely two days a week.  The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.

The successful applicant should have completed a PhD in urban planning, civil engineering, geography, urban informatics, or a similar field with suitable analytic skills to conduct transportation analysis. The ability to conduct qualitative research and organize and run focus groups is essential.

The successful candidate will work on multiple research assignments under the supervision of Dr. Robert Noland. A primary area of focus will be working on the MobilityNet project funded by the NSF (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/show-award?AWD_ID=2411151). The objective is to assess the suitability of the tools being developed for transportation planners. This will involve engaging with the transportation modeling and planning community via workshops, focus groups, and other venues to assess the feasibility of using these tools for planning purposes. The project website is available here: https://ufodestiny.github.io/MobilityNet/overview/index.html

The post-doctoral position will also provide opportunities to contribute to a variety of additional research projects at VTC in collaboration with faculty and research staff. This work ranges from analytical analysis of transportation safety, travel behavior analysis, and survey research on a variety of transportation policies.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and the names and contact details of three references. Applications will be reviewed starting on March 15th, 2026. Any inquiries can be directed to Prof. Robert Noland at rnoland@rutgers.edu.
