Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship on American History and Culture

The Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience invites applications for its full-time residential fellowship, which supports outstanding work on American history by both scholars and non-academics.

The Center’s Patrick Henry History Fellowship includes a $45,000 stipend, health benefits, faculty privileges, a book allowance, and a nine-month residency (during the academic year) in a historic 18th-century house in Chestertown, Md.

Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Fellowships at Princeton University Center for Human Values

The University Center for Human Values invites applications for Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowships for the academic year 2026-27. Fellows devote an academic year in residence at Princeton to research and writing about topics involving human values in public and private life. This full-time visiting program is open to scholars in all disciplines across the humanities and social sciences. We welcome applications from scholars from a variety of disciplines.

The James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University is dedicated to the pursuit of scholarly excellence in the fields of constitutional law and political thought. Sponsored by Princeton's Department of Politics, the Program seeks to enrich the intellectual life of Princeton students and faculty by exploring American constitutional principles and structures through research and public discussion. 

Barra Sabbatical Fellowship in Early American Studies

The McNeil Center for Early American Studies will appoint a Barra Sabbatical Fellow for a nine-month term, beginning 1 September 2026. This fellowship is designed for a scholar on leave from a faculty position for the 2026–2027 academic year and at work on a book-length research project. Applications are welcome from scholars whose project focuses on any aspect of the histories and cultures of North America in the Atlantic before 1850. Candidates who have received McNeil Center funding for a closely related project are not eligible.

Barra Postdoctoral Fellowship in Early American Studies

The McNeil Center for Early American Studies will appoint a Barra Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year term, beginning 1 July 2026. Applications are welcome from junior scholars whose work focuses on any aspect of the histories and cultures of North America in the Atlantic world before 1850. Applicants must have earned the PhD no earlier than 2022 and must have completed all requirements for the degree when the appointment commences. Candidates who have received McNeil Center funding for a related project at the pre-doctoral stage are not eligible.
