The Dorothea Schlözer postdoctoral programme for women is addressed to female scientists and scholars in their early postdoctoral phase and is intended to contribute to counteracting the attrition of women across all disciplines from postdoctoral research and to promote female scientists and scholars on their way to a leading position in science. It replaced the Dorothea Schlözer scholarship programme in 2017.

In recent years, short-term employment and job insecurity for young researchers have meant that the environment for them is conducive to neither challenging new areas of research nor to creative achievement. This has raised concern that the advance of Japan's scientific, technological and academic research cannot be sustained. The German Historical Institute Washington DC is proud to announce a new fellowship program at its Pacific Regional Office in Berkeley, GHI West. The fellowship program offers up to three senior scholars per year the chance to come to Berkeley to help shape the emerging Center for the History of Migration and Knowledge which is being established at GHI West. Stays may range from four to twelve weeks. 

The Center for Global Asia at NYU Shanghai is pleased to announce the availability of two research positions for the study of intra-Asian interactions, starting fall 2024. One position is for a postdoctoral fellow working on colonial or pre-colonial (c. 1400–1800) port cities of the Indian Ocean world, including the South China Sea.

Work duties

A postdoctoral fellow’s duties consist mainly of research, to apply for external research funding in the field, but also some administration. The position requires continuous attendance at the Centre, active participation in seminars, on-going presentation of the fellow’s own research and, where necessary, teaching and supervision of students corresponding to up to 20% of the position.

Eligibility requirements

The Institute of Advanced Studies is seeking to appoint four Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) on appointments of 24 months each.  Candidates should have recently completed (within five years) a PhD in one of the subject areas of either the Faculty of Arts & Humanities or the Faculty of Social & Historical Sciences, and should be able to contribute to one of the following research themes: Laughter or Turbulence.
