The MacMillan Center International Book Prizes

The MacMillan Center annually awards two prizes recognizing exemplary books on international topics, honoring the legacies of former Center directors.

MacMillan is accepting nominations for books published in the 2025 calendar year. Submissions are due March 6, 2026.

Submit a Nomination

Established in 2004 to honor two former directors of the MacMillan Center, the Gustav Ranis International Book Prize is awarded to the best book by a Yale ladder faculty member. The Gaddis Smith International Book Prize is given to the best first book by a Yale ladder faculty member.

Recipients receive a research appointment at the MacMillan Center and funds that enable them to further advance their scholarly work.
