Fellowship: "Family, Kinship and Households: New Perspectives" at Ohio State University
The Center for Historical Research (CHR) at The Ohio State University is offering a two-year program (2015-2017) devoted to the theme “Family, Kinship and Households”. The program features a series of seminars and lectures by leading scholars from the United States and abroad, as well as a number of workshops designed to explore theoretical and methodological issues in the field. We invite fellowship applications for the 2016-2017 academic year from scholars whose research encompasses the theme of “Family. Kinship and Households.”
Fellowships are typically one-year appointments to work at the Center for Historical Research, affiliated with the Department of History at The Ohio State University. The intention is to provide scholars of all ranks with a year devoted to research and writing so that they may make significant progress on a major intellectual project, usually a book. All fellows are expected to be in residence at The Ohio State University, engage in the on-going intellectual life of the Center, conduct one of the program seminars, and make a public presentation of their research during the fellowship term.
We welcome applications from the United States and abroad, and from all disciplines. We expect applicants to engage innovatively in research appropriate to the theme, “Family, Kinship and Households”.
Fellows are invited to participate in all Department of History activities, including our on-going seminar series: the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality History Seminar; the Early Modern History Seminar; the Modern U.S. History Seminar, and all other seminars and conferences supported by the department. Fellows will have access to the facilities of The Ohio State University, its libraries, and the normal social amenities sponsored on campus. The Department of History and the College of Arts & Sciences will provide fellows with office space equipped with personal computers, staff assistance, research support, copying facilities, telefax and email service, and internet access.
Senior Faculty Fellowships
Applicants for Senior Faculty Fellowships must be prominence in any area appropriate to the program theme. Senior Faculty Fellows are required to offer on graduate or undergraduate course in the department on a topic related to the theme, “Family, Kinship and Households,” likely during spring semester.
We prefer that Senior Faculty Fellows participate in the year-long program, but consideration will be given to requests for a single semester fellowship (with a proportional reduction in compensation.) Senior Faculty Fellows will receive a salary of $62,000 plus benefits, as well as moving expenses and research funds up to $5,000.
Junior Faculty Fellowships
Applicants for Junior Faculty Fellowships must have received a Ph.D. (or the equivalent thereof) no earlier than 2009 and no later than August 1, 2016. Junior Faculty Fellows are required to offer one graduate or undergraduate course in the department on a topic related to the theme, “Family, Kinship and Households,” likely during spring semester. Junior Faculty Fellows will receive a salary of $42,000 plus benefits, as well as moving expenses and research funds up to $5,000.
