Academic Research Fellowship - Artistic Research Fellowship

archives

On June 10 2026, our archives at the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) will open up to the public. To encourage research into our historical holdings at the HAEU, we will open a new annual Fellowship programme on June 10.

This ECF Fellowship aims to foster new research and creative work engaging with the history of the European Cultural Foundation and the broader role of culture in shaping Europe as a shared space of imagination, cooperation, and solidarity.

It encourages projects that not only examine ECF’s historical activities, networks, and ideas, but also draw on this legacy to reflect on Europe’s cultural, intellectual, and civic dimensions today.

Fellows are expected to work substantially with the ECF archival holdings – primarily in English, with significant material in French, German, and Dutch, and additional languages occasionally represented.

Outcomes of the ECF Fellowship must be completed and publicly presented or published within two years after the signing of the Grant Agreement.

We offer two annual Fellowships:

Academic Research Fellowship
includes a grant of €5,000 to support a research stay at the HAEU, including travel, accommodation, and living expenses.

Artistic Research Fellowship
includes a grant of €10,000 to support a research stay at the HAEU, including travel, accommodation, and living expenses, as well as artistic production.

Application deadline: 30 September 2026 at 17:00 CET.

Fellows work at the HAEU, embedded in the international scholarly community of the European University Institute in Florence. The Archives are housed at Villa Salviati, offering a unique and inspiring environment for research and creative work.
