Post Doctoral Fellowship at Qatar University: Cultures, societies, and public affairs of the Arab Gulf states
The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) at Qatar University is pleased to announce the opening of a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position located in Doha, Qatar. This is a full-time position for a period of one year, with a start date that is negotiable, and the possibility of a one-year renewal upon mutual agreement.
This fellowship is attached to SESRI’s Policy Unit. Scholars with a recent doctoral degree from a relevant social science or related discipline are encouraged to apply, but we are especially interested in persons with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following priority policy areas: education, marriage and family, migration, economics and political economy, environment, energy and water, health, and public administration. Priority will be given to candidates who are bilingual (Arabic and English) and who have experience with collecting and using survey data as part of their own research as well as substantive interests in the cultures, societies, and public affairs of the Arab Gulf states.
In addition to working on your own research, duties will include some combination of the following activities: participating in the development, design and implementation of national surveys in Qatar and comparative studies in the Gulf region; presenting results from surveys administered by SESRI at local and international conferences and to public and private sector audiences; co-authoring papers, articles, and policy reports that utilize findings from surveys undertaken by SESRI; teaching seminars in collaboration with personnel from SESRI and the University of Michigan; collaborating with personnel from SESRI and the University of Michigan on research projects of joint interest; and participating in the intellectual life of SESRI and Qatar University.
Compensation includes a competitive salary, which is tax-free in Qatar (but persons will still be responsible for any applicable taxes from their country of origin), along with a generous fringe benefits package that includes health insurance. Furnished housing is also provided at no additional cost outside of expenses such as utilities, cable, and Internet access. Applicants will have their flight and moving expenses paid for at the beginning and end of their appointment, as well as one round-trip flight home annually. Educational allowances for up to three accompanying children are also available.
