Princeton Center for Digital Humanities (CDH)

Université Princeton

The Center for Digital Humanities is an interdisciplinary research center and academic unit within the Princeton University Library. While the global digital humanities community is constantly defining and redefining itself, at the CDH we embrace an inclusive understanding of DH that respects and investigates the myriad ways digital methods and technologies are opening new avenues for research into the human experience, past and present.

The CDH research team serves as a hub for expertise in digital methods, tools, and best practices that allow scholars to analyze traditional and unconventional source bases to discover and share new insights.

  • Research: The center fosters discussion on campus and actively engages in debates about critical issues in the field. We partner with Princeton faculty, students, and fellow library colleagues to incubate innovative digital humanities projects. We also select a limited number of official CDH collaborative projects through a peer-reviewed application process.
  • Consultation: Our staff members consult on digital humanities projects to facilitate collaborations and connections on and off campus. The CDH also hosts an open lab and welcomes students, faculty, and staff to work collaboratively in our space.
  • Teaching: CDH staff and affiliated researchers teach hands-on workshops that relate digital methods to humanities research. We're also working to establish digital humanities in the graduate and undergraduate curriculum at Princeton.
  • Events: The CDH hosts and co-hosts a wide range of events designed to bring greater awareness of digital humanities research methods and discoveries to the Princeton community.
  • The not-so-fine print: The Center for Digital Humanities develops open access projects and open source software.  As appropriate, CDH staff members may serve as Project Lead or Co-Project Lead on CDH projects.
