ZiF is offering two Fellowships of five months for African researchers to take part in the ZiF Research Group “The Epistemology of Evidence-Based Policy: How Philosophy can Facilitate the Science-Policy Interface” (February - June 2023)

Are you interested in interdisciplinary cooperation? Do you want to be part of a high-level international team of researchers? If so, we invite you to apply for a Norbert Elias Fellowship at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Bielefeld, Germany.

ZiF is the Institute for Advanced Study of Bielefeld University and has been fostering outstanding interdisciplinary research groups for more than 50 years.

The fellowship is part of the ZiF Research Group working on “The Epistemology of Evidence-Based Policy: How Philosophy can Facilitate the Science-Policy Interface”, convened by Dr. Anne Schwenkenbecher (Murdoch University, Australia), Dr. Remco Heesen (University of Western Australia) and Professor Chad Hewitt (Murdoch University, Australia). International fellows from different disciplines will work together at ZiF from February to June 2023. The research group’s working language is English. Further information about the research group can be found here.

Successful applicants will be living with the research group at ZiF for five months. They will take part in the regular meetings, talks, workshops and conferences of the research group, present their own research, enhance the group’s discussions by their perspective and work on the research group’s topic. Norbert Elias Fellows also have the opportunity to follow their own projects, qualification and networking.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The fellowship is directed at senior and postdoctoral researchers from African universities whose research and publications are closely linked to the research group’s topic. We are looking for applicants from thematically relevant research fields, such as Philosophy of Science or Epistemology, Biology or related disciplines with a focus on Biosecurity, Public Policy, Public Health or Medicine / infectious diseases. Experience of interdisciplinary research or working experience in two or more of the above fields will be an advantage.
Applicants should be interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and willing to engage in the activities of the research group. Since one of our goals is to extend our interdisciplinary networks across the African continent, we are looking especially for researchers who plan to continue their careers at African institutions.

WHAT IS THE OFFER?

ZiF offers a monthly stipend of 2,400 Euro, free accommodation at the ZiF’s campus and travel expenses. ZiF will also contribute to the costs of adequate health insurance.
Fellows are very welcome to bring their immediate families. ZiF’s campus provides suitable accommodation varying from single room to family size-flats. Fellows will also receive an additional allowance of 200 Euro per month per accompanying child under the age of 13. We will be happy to assist with finding appropriate childcare and educational facilities.
