UCA POST-DOCTORAL POSITION SOCIOLOGY OF RURAL MOBILITY

Call illustration

In the framework of the of the International Research Centre “Innovative Transportation and Production Systems” of the I-SITE CAP 20-25 project (CIR ITPS), a one-year postdoctoral position is proposed for highly motivated candidates interested in rrural mobility and specifically in the adoption of autonomous vehicles in rural areas.

SCIENTIFIC PROJECT

Acceptability rates of autonomous vehicles are different between countries (75% of Chinese, 68% of Germans, 52% of Americans, 36% of Japanese.) In 2020, 42% of French people intended to try an autonomous vehicle (Vedecom Institute, 2020). However, adoption and obstacles to mobility are little studied in rural areas, as are “the challenges of sustainable mobility in rural areas” (Filpo, 2021). While these rural difficulties are not new, they are increasing with the aging of the population and the migration of urban dwellers to these rural areas.

This exploratory post-doctoral position aims at a better understanding of mobility in rural areas. Knowing that residents of rural areas are very attached to their personal vehicles, this exploratory study will help in the understanding of what could lead an individual to adopting or refusing automated or connected mobility (autonomous vehicles).
