BIAA-Bilkent University Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Institute welcomes applications for research that fits within one of the Strategic Research Initiatives currently promoted by the Institute. More information about the current Strategic Research Initiatives can be found on the BIAA website.

Fellowships will be tenable for 12 months from September 2026.  Fellows will be based at the BIAA’s research centre in Ankara and the relevant department within Bilkent University.  Fellows will be required to spend at least two-thirds of the period of their Fellowship in Ankara. The remaining one-third may be spent outside Ankara for research purposes, following consultation with the BIAA Director.

The candidate should normally have completed their PhD at a UK University within the last two years. The BIAA also invites applications from those with an active link to a UK Higher Education Institution who were granted their PhD within the last 10 years.

Research should be located within the field of the arts, humanities and the social sciences and should be focused on and/or undertaken in Türkiye and the Black Sea region.

Applicants are required to submit the application form below, together with a cover letter and research plan to biaa@thebritishacademy.ac.uk. The research plan should present a timetable for the anticipated research and include clear deliverables. It should lead to a substantial publication either in monograph and/or article form.

Applications must be supported by two referees. References should be provided on the headed paper of the referees’ home institution or within an email which clearly indicates the position and institution of the referee. Note that applicants are responsible for ensuring that their referees submit their references directly to biaa@thebritishacademy.ac.uk by the closing date of 26 April 2026. Interviews will take place during the week starting 11th May.
