During the academic year 2026/2027, the fellowship program will focus on topics related to the five research clusters of the Field of Excellence "Dimensions of Europe".

  • Junior Visiting Fellows:  Those who have completed their PhD will receive a monthly stipend of 2,000 € for four months and reimbursement of travel costs to Graz (up to 600 €).
  • Senior Visiting Fellows: They will receive an apartment (up to 1,600 €/ month) for four months, a return flight ticket (economy class; up to 900€) to Graz, and a lump sum of 4,000 € for personal expenses. This program is open to researchers with an established international reputation.

Visiting Fellows will receive workspace and library access. They will be involved in the activities of the Field of Excellence “Dimensions of Europe” and participating institutes, as well as the Centre for Southeast European Studies. All fellows are expected to be physically present at the University of Graz during the four months of the fellowship, present their research during their stay, attend other presentations and contribute to the academic environment of the university. Fellows are expected to work on a specific publication during their stay and collaborate with a research cluster of their choice.

Please note, that fellows are not employed by the University of Graz. Scholarships may be taxable in Austria. The fellow indepentently has to meet all obligations according to the Austrian tax and social security law. The University of Graz will cover (civil) liability and accident insurance. The research fellow is responsible for obtaining further adequate insurance coverage (such as health and social insurance). Fellows need to take care of their residence permit for the whole duration of their fellowship beforehand.

To apply, send a research plan (clearly indicating the cluster you wish to collaborate with and your preferred semester) and your academic CV to europe(at)uni-graz.at by March 15, 2026.
