Mershon Center for International Security Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship
National Security in a Global Context
The Mershon postdoctoral fellowships support research on national security in a global context. The Mershon Center for International Security Studies at The Ohio State University understand international security from a wide range of perspectives, approaches, and substantive foci. Consequently, successful applicants may come from a variety of disciplines that engage international security broadly conceived. We especially welcome applications from scholars whose work explicitly integrates knowledge across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
The Mershon Center provides an institutional home for campus-wide collaboration among departments, programs, institutes, faculty and students at The Ohio State University engaged in work pertaining to international security broadly construed. Activities include conferences, roundtables, and speaker series.
The Mershon Center for International Security Studies invites applications to fill two postdoctoral fellowship positions for the 2019-2020 academic year. Applications are welcomed from scholars who have completed their Ph.D. since June 30, 2013, or who expect to complete their degree by June 30, 2019. The term of appointment is July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020. Successful applicants may apply for a one-year renewal of the fellowship.
Fellows at the Mershon Center will pursue their own research and participate in the activities of the Center. Because fellows are expected to be fully integrated with the intellectual life of the Center, they must plan to physically reside in the vicinity of The Ohio State University. Each fellow receives a stipend of $48,000, a $2,000 research fund, office space at the Mershon Center, and health insurance.
Application Instructions
To apply for a Mershon Center postdoctoral fellowship, please send the following :
- Cover letter that includes an abstract of the project. In a paragraph, explain to an interdisciplinary audience how your project will advance the understanding of international and national security, broadly defined.
- Three- to five-page double-spaced statement elaborating the purpose, method, anticipated products, and significance of the research.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Writing sample.
- Three letters of recommendation.
Please send the cover letter, research statement. CV, and writing sample in one Word document labeled with last name, first initial, dash, then postdocapp; for example, Jane Smith would send one Word document named SmithJ-postdocapp. Letters of recommendation may be sent separately.
The Mershon Center will start to accept applications for postdoctoral fellowships on January 1, 2019, and begin reviewing applications on March 1, 2019. To receive full consideration, your application should be received by March 1, 2019.
