The School of Advanced Study at the University of London brings together 9 internationally-renowned research institutes to form the UK's national centre for the support of researchers and the promotion of research in the humanities. The School also hosts a multidisciplinary centre, the Human Rights Consortium.

The School is the only institution in the UK that is nationally funded to promote and facilitate research in the humanities and social sciences and receives special funding for this purpose from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

The academic staff of the School also undertake research and scholarship, underpinning the School's national role as an innovative space for advanced study and its commitment to the highest standards of scholarship. In addition, six of the institutes offer a range of taught Master's programmes and doctoral supervision in their areas of expertise.
