Bill Lane Center postdoctoral fellowships in the study of the North American West

The Bill Lane Center offers one-year and two-year postdoctoral fellowships in the study of the North American West. Recent Ph.D.s in all disciplines of the humanities and sciences whose research concerns the western United States, western Canada, Mexico, and the Pacific World are eligible.

While in residence at the Center, fellows pursue their own research. Fellows also work with faculty colleagues in developing Center research programs; organize academic events related to their area of research; and may teach an undergraduate course on a topic related to their research. Courses are offered in the department most appropriate to their disciplinary specialization.

While we do not have a formal deadline for postdoc applications, for fullest consideration, we recommend submitting application materials by January 31 of each year for the following autumn.

We will also consider inquiries from qualified applicants who can bring their own funding or have a viable proposal to submit for outside funding — such as NSF — for projects on the American West that are particularly suited to research at the Center and Stanford University.
