Junior and Senior Fellowships for Historical Research in Munich

Creating scope for development ...

… is what the Historisches Kolleg is all about. Ever since 1980, the Kolleg has provided excellent scholars with the opportunity to spend an entire year (from October till September of the following year) doing research, thinking and writing with the goal of finishing a major scientific work. The fellows find ideal working conditions at the Kaulbach-Villa: released from their obligations at their home universities, they can concentrate on their work at a leading scientific venue within close range of excellent libraries, research facilities and archives – all this, last but not least, at a central yet quiet location right between the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and the Englischer Garten.

Research Grants

Each college year two to three research grants are awarded to scholars who have excelled in their field and who wish to bring to a close an "opus magnum" at the Historisches Kolleg.

Scholarships

Three scholarships are awarded to junior scientists. Applicants, who must be young, qualified scientists, may receive a scholarship if, as a rule, they will finish their habilitation dissertation during their "Munich Year".

Honorary Fellowships

Since 2009, the Honorary Fellowship permits scholars leading in their field to live and work at the Historisches Kolleg for a shorter period of time (half a year maximum).
