Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in Cape Town
The A.W. Mellon foundation has provided funding for postdoctoral fellowships in the Faculty of Humanities for 2016.
The Fellowships are open to candidates in the Social Sciences, Humanities and the Performing and Creative Arts who were awarded their PhD degrees no earlier than June 2011, and who wish to carry out research in their specific discipline or a directly cognate discipline. Candidates may not be registered for any degree at the time of taking up the Fellowship. Individuals who have held full-time academic posts since obtaining a PhD are ineligible to apply.
Fellowships are normally tenable for one year. Renewal for a second year of the Fellowship will be considered on proof of satisfactory progress and in competition with new applications.
The value of the Fellowship is R195 000 per annum, including any relocation costs. Modest funds (up to R25 000) are available for travel and research costs. The Fellowship carries no benefits and complies with the SARS rules for tax exemption. Application for such exemption will be made on behalf of each successful candidate.
Successful candidates are expected to pursue a mutually agreed upon research programme with the appointed Principal Investigator (Supervisor) and Head of Department (HOD) in the host Department, within the Faculty. Formal progress reports, written by the Postdoctoral Fellow and endorsed by both the Principal Investigator and the HOD, are due in June and December.
