Visiting Research Fellowships on the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas
Two residential stipendiary fellowships are offered annually by the SRU for scholars who have completed a doctorate (or appropriate final degree) and who are undertaking research for publication in the arts of Africa, Oceania or the Americas. Advanced doctoral candidates may be considered in some circumstances.
Applications are welcome from scholars, UK or overseas, in such fields as anthropology, art history, archaeology, history and related disciplines. Equal consideration is given to younger scholars and senior figures. Fellowships are usually tenable for three months, during the Autumn (Sep-Dec) and Spring (Jan-April) semesters. The stipend is £2,000 pounds per month, pro rata for length of fellowship. A travel allowance of up to £800 is provided to cover travel costs to and from Norwich. Support is also offered for visa costs, if required.
Fellows are provided with an office and access to library and other facilities. They are expected to deliver two presentations and attend seminars and other meetings as appropriate. Regular interaction with SRU faculty and graduate students is encouraged, but the main purpose of a fellowship is to provide quality time and facilities for the fellow to complete a substantial piece of writing.
The deadline for applications for Autumn 2024 and Spring 2025 Fellowships is Friday 26 January 2024, 5pm UK time. Results will be announced by mid-February 2024. Applications should include a CV, a proposal explaining the writing project to be undertaken (max. 1000 words) and two references (to be sent directly by referees to the SRU). Please contact the SRU Admissions Secretary for further information and application procedure.
