Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies (LRCCS)

Chinese studies at the University of Michigan formally began in 1930 with the establishment of an Oriental Civilizations Program. In 1961, the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) was established. It has become one of the nation's most prominent centers devoted to a deeper understanding of China, past and present. CCS, in conjunction with the Center for Japanese Studies and Nam Center for Korean Studies, forms U-M's East Asia National Resource Center, a prestigious designation awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Now rechristened The Kenneth G. Lieberthal and Richard H. Rogel Center for Chinese Studies (LRCCS), we are the premier place on the University of Michigan campus to gain access to resources on China, including leading scholars, ongoing projects, and funding for faculty and student research. It houses experts in nearly every major facet of Chinese studies ranging from literature and history to law and public health.

This wide disciplinary range enables the center to offer a unique interdisciplinary master's degree, which provides specialist training in Chinese studies.
