Senior Research Fellowships

These are available to distinguished scholars whose work is of relevance to the Institute.
The Institute has the following primary areas of focus:
- Strengthening the rule of law
- Promoting minority and indigenous rights
- Re-conceptualising Law, Rights and Development
- Combatting climate breakdown and supporting environmental justice
- Advocating for everyone to have the right to a nationality
- Defending global multilateralism
Benefits available to Senior Research Fellows
Senior Research Fellows are attached to the Institute for the period of their tenure and are given full use of the Institute’s facilities, including access to the Senate House Libraries, institutional email, an office space on a hot-desking policy. Furthermore, Fellow are encouraged to include their details in the SAS-Directory of Research and Expertise as well as to make use of the SAS online repository service, SAS-Space.
Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a distinguished academic or public intellectual with a publication record or research profile commensurate with the rank of Reader or Professor
- Have a demonstrable interest in and ongoing engagement with Commonwealth-related research
- Show a sustained record of leadership, mentoring or influence in higher education, policy, or research
- Be unaffiliated (except at Emeritus level) or working in non-university contexts with a demonstrable need for institutional affiliation
How to Apply
The next round of applications will open on 1 September 2025.
Applications should be sent to Institute Manager Lesley Jones with the following:
- a completed SRF application form
- an up to date CV
- two references
- a short statement of the research to be undertaken during the period of the proposed Fellowship and/or publications expected to result from it.
