Talented early-career researchers may apply for a three-year appointment as a post-doc researcher at an Academy institute to conduct research on the labour market and social security in the Netherlands. Potential subjects include trends and developments in sickness absenteeism and incapacity for work, labour market shortages, the mismatch between education and the labour market, and the implementation of social security programmes. The research must be of relevance to society and display a demonstrable interest in societal impact.

The Gonda Foundation of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences supports the scholarly study of Sanskrit, other classical Indian languages and literatures, and Indian cultural history. The Foundation’s assets consist of the estate of Indologist Jan Gonda, who was a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.

We are seeking an outstanding scholar and teacher who studies Islamic thought, literature and/or practice in the pre-modern period (up until c. 1800 CE), based on primary sources in Arabic and other languages if appropriate. The successful applicant will have strong expertise in Islamic law. In addition, the postholder will have further expertise in Sufism, the hadith literature or Shi’i Islam.

Washington University’s Center for the Humanities, in partnership with the University of Ghana, American University in Cairo and Stellenbosch University, with University of Ghana as the lead Institution, has received funding from the Mellon Foundation for a transnational program, aimed at enhancing research capacity for early career scholars in the humanities. The program funds the travel, housing and other related costs of selected early career humanities scholars from the four institutions to spend three months at one of the other partner institutions.
