Hillary Clinton Center for Women’s Empowerment (HCC)

Université Al Akhawayn

The Hillary Clinton Center for Women’s Empowerment (HCC) at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane was established in 1999 on the occasion of then First Lady Hillary Clinton’s commencement speech to the second graduating class of Al Akhawayn University.

HCC is the foremost English language research center on contemporary gender and women’s rights issues in North Africa. We serve the academic community, scholars, students, civil society leaders, and policy makers. Located within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, we provide a neutral venue where different stakeholders can freely develop and exchange ideas, and explore new theories and practices to promote a gender egalitarian society.

Current themes include legal reform, political participation of women, women and children migrants and refugees, economic development, and the empowerment of rural women.

The Center conducts and supports scholarly applied research that serves as a basis for policy and is actively engaged in programs for semi-literate rural women’s associations.
