The Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin seeks applications from recent PhD recipients for its Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.

This residential fellowship supports a scholar who earned their Ph.D. at least one year before the start of the fellowship and whose research project explores the impact of technology on history. Applications for this fellowship should specify collections of The New York Historical that will be crucial to the research project.

The American Philosophical Society's Library & Museum in Philadelphia invites applications for short-term residential research fellowships. These funding opportunities provide 1- to 3- months of support for researchers in residence and are open to scholars in all fields who show a demonstrated need to use the Library & Museum’s collections for their project. Approximately 25-30 short-term fellowships are awarded each year.

New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest (Romania) launches the annual competition for the 2025/2026 NEC Fellowships. Romanian and international scholars at postdoctoral level in all fields of the humanities and social sciences (including law and economics) are invited to apply.

The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts announces its program for visiting senior fellowships. All of the fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the Center throughout the fellowship period. Lectures, colloquia, and informal discussions complement the fellowship program. Each visiting senior fellow is provided with a study. In addition, fellows who relocate to Washington are provided with housing in apartments near the National Gallery, subject to availability.

The MHS will offer more than 20 short-term research fellowships in 2025. Most grants will provide a stipend of $3,000 for four weeks of research at the Society sometime between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. Short-term awards are open to independent scholars, advanced graduate students, and holders of the Ph.D. or the equivalent. Applicants who do not reside in the U.S. must indicate their citizenship. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or already hold the J-1 or F-1 visa (or equivalent documents) AND a U.S. taxpayer identification number.

The Massachusetts Historical Society and the Boston Athenaeum will award one Suzanne and Caleb Loring Fellowship on the Civil War, Its Origins, and Consequences annually. The recipient will conduct research for at least four weeks at each institution between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. The Athenaeum’s Civil War collections are anchored by its holdings of Confederate states imprints, the largest in the nation, consisting of books, maps, broadsides, sheet music, government documental publications, and other materials organized according to the Parrish & Willingham bibliography.

The MHS awards at least 2 long-term MHS-NEH fellowships annually, for a minimum of 4 months and a maximum of 12 months. The NEH stipend is $5,000 per month in 2023-2024. The MHS provides a supplement to assist with professional and housing expenses. Applicants must have completed their professional training and be U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who have lived in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline.

Two residential stipendiary fellowships are  offered annually by the SRU for scholars who have completed a doctorate (or appropriate final degree) and who are undertaking research for publication in the arts of Africa, Oceania or the Americas. Advanced doctoral candidates may be considered in some circumstances.
