HISTORISCHES KOLLEG Consolidator Fellowships

The Historisches Kolleg invites applications for a Consolidator Fellowship for the 47th Kolleg year (1 October 2026-30 September 2027) aimed at applicants from the Global South, especially Africa.

With the Consolidator Fellowship Global South, the Kolleg aims to promote international exchange and help counteract global inequality of opportunity in academia. The additional funding required is provided by the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW).

Historisches Kolleg Advanced Fellowships

The Historische Kolleg will award up to 3 full-year Advanced Fellowships in the 47th Kolleg year (1 October 2026 – 30 September 2027)

Advanced Fellowships are aimed at scholars in all historical disciplines who are employed at universities or non-university research institutions and have demonstrated outstanding research achievements. They are intended to facilitate completion of a major academic monograph. 

ZI Award for Early Career Research in the Applied Arts

The Association of Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich (Conivncta Florescit), offers an annual award for early career research in the field of applied arts. The award is funded by Claudia Oetker.

The purpose of this award, funded by Claudia Oetker, is to encourage younger scholars to address neglected topics and to bring the results of their work to the attention of a broader public.

Theodor Fischer Award

The Association of Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich (Conivncta Florescit), offers an annual award for early career research in the field of the history of architecture. The purpose of this award, named after the architect Theodor Fischer (1862–1938), is to encourage younger scholars to bring the results of their work to the attention of a broader public.

Wolfgang Ratjen Award

The Wolfgang Ratjen Award is an annual award for early career research in the field of graphic arts. The prize, funded by the Foundation Wolfgang Ratjen, is curated and presented by CONIVNCTA FLORESCIT Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte.

The purpose of this award, which honours the memory of the collector Wolfgang Ratjen (1943–1997), is to encourage younger scholars to address neglected topics and to bring the results of their work to the attention of a broader public.

Willibald Sauerländer Award

The Willibald Sauerländer Award honours and supports early career research in the history of art history

The prize, funded by CONIVNCTA FLORESCIT Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, honours the memory of Willibald Sauerländer (1924–2018), from 1970 to 1989 director of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte and an honorary professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich.

Jutta Held Award

The Jutta Held Award honours and supports early career research in art history with a socio-political focus.

The award, funded by Stiftung Kritische Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften, honours the memory of Jutta Held (1933–2007), one of the first female professors of art history. The award is made in recognition of her commitment to social issues and gender studies in art and cultural history, and aims to promote such critical approaches in early-career scholarship.

ZI Creative Space Fellowship

The Creative Space Fellowship, funded by the Association of Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte CONIVNCTA FLORESCIT e.V., gives freelance curators and art historians employed in museums the opportunity of pursuing research in connection with a collection or an exhibition. The fellowship is meant to create a “creative scientific space” in order to reflect on collections and exhibitions and to develop ideas and concepts. Fellows are expected to partake in the activities of the ZI and to present the fellowship project.

NYHS George Champion Research Fellowship

This one-year residential research fellowship supports a scholar who will use the George Champion Papers to publish a peer-reviewed journal article or academic book directly relevant to the collection. The fellow’s research project may make use of other collections in the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library but it must primarily utilize the George Champion Papers and should focus on topics related to the collection such as banking, economics, business history, or New York City urban development in the 20th century. There is no restriction relating to academic status of applicants.
